Camp Prep!

Teens!January and February started our busiest season at North Cebu Baptist Church! With camp in April, we are already working on decorations, programs, and schedules. This will be the 5th year our church has hosted summer camp and we are excited to see what God will do! Because camp has helped so many teens, we do everything we can to make it affordable for everyone. A majority of our young people do not have their family’s support to raise money for camp. In fact, we work very hard just to persuade parents to let their teens come. Camp provides an invaluable week of encouragement and spiritual help for our teenagers! So while we keep the camper fee low, the actual cost for running camp is not! We ask you to pray and consider helping us in this needed ministry! As we prepare for camp this year, we are trying to raise a minimum of $5,000 just to make camp possible. We want to thank the people who have already showed their support through their prayers and finances! Your investment will impact the lives of teens for years to come! For those who still want to give, please send camp sponsorships to our support address marked Lewis Camp 2015.

In case you missed our latest prayer letter, here is a little excerpt to help you catch up!:

Camp 2015 is here, bringing a new year of challenges and opportunities! Preparations for camp have already started and we are praying for God to work in the hearts of our teenagers. Over the years we have watched God use camp to transform lives! We have seen young people saved, life changing decisions made, and so much more! Last year was our biggest year to date with over 200 hundred teens in attendance! Because camp is such an important ministry, we do everything we can to make it affordable for all. 90% of our young people do not have their family’s support to raise money for camp. In fact, we work very hard just to persuade parents to let their teens come. Camp is so invaluable for these teens who struggle to live the Christian life with no encouragement at home. So while we keep the camper fee low, the actual cost for running camp is not! We ask you to pray and consider helping us in this needed ministry! As we prepare for camp this year, we are trying to raise a minimum of $5,000 just to make camp possible. Camp is quite a production since we rent a school and bring everything we need with us for that week of camp. We build our own makeshift kitchen, cook over open fires, and ship in our supplies. Please pray and if God should touch your heart to help, please send camp sponsorships to our support address marked Lewis Camp 2015. Your sacrifice will make an eternal difference in the lives of teenagers in the Philippines.

Stay In The Castle

Flor and the CastleWell, it’s summer time! In this hot season there’s always one thing we look forward to….CAMP!  We packed our bags, our fans, our mattresses (yep you read that right :) ), and our kids to head a couple hours south and join the fun. The Lord blessed us this year with a large facility to accommodate our 200 plus campers. Even though it was not equipped with beds the campers came prepared. They brought cardboard and foam mats to sleep on!  For most of them it wasn’t too different from their own beds at home. I loved their smiles even when they didn’t have all the “necessities” that we so often take for granted. This year our theme was “Stay In the Castle.” Our crew did a wonderful job performing the classic play. What a great opportunity to encourage the teens to remain pure and to live a life of no regrets! In the world today, many people believe that is impossible!  But God’s Word tells us that it is not only possible, it is our”reasonable service” for Christ!

Summer Camp 2013

Our summer program is in full swing and has kept us busy with church activities, including camp!  This summer our church hosted camp on a school property.  It was a beautiful location but it lacked a lot of things that would normally come with a campsite.  Things like a running kitchen and cafeteria were not provided and even beds for the kids and counselors to sleep.  This did not stop our camp staff or campers though and we had an awesome week!  Campers brought cardboard (yes, cardboard!)and foams to sleep on and our kitchen staff transformed a classroom into a working kitchen with a portable stove top.  Our main speaker was a Filipino missionary to Vietnam.  He and his family had amazing testimonies from their church back in Vietnam and really challenged our faith during the week.  These dear people have to meet secretly for church and baptize new converts in the bathtub of their own home.  During the week, this pastor said that he didn’t know what would happen to him and his family but he knew that being in God’s will was the best place for him, his dear wife, and children. That is a man of faith!  It was an incredible week and several teens made great decisions!  Camp has meant  so much to Elizabeth and I in our life back in the States and we are so happy to take part in this ministry here in the Philippines.
