Tongue Tied

Tongue TiedLearning a language can be a tricky…especially when the language is tonal. For the missionary, this can cause some very funny moments. For example, words like suko and suka. These two words may sound similar but using the wrong one will completely change what you meant to say! Such was the case for my wife, Elizabeth. After studying Cebuano for three years, she has finally started teaching children’s classes. What she was trying to say was “Pero kong mopadayon ka sa imong pagkasuko makasala ka.” or in English, “If you continue to be angry you will sin!” What she actually said was, “If you continue to throw up you will sin!” OOOOPS! Just another day in the life of a missionary! :)

Great news! Our co-laborers,The Lewis Family.001 the Lewis’, have bought their plane tickets to return to Cebu! They will be leaving the USA on September 15, 2015! Please keep them in your prayers! Upon their arrival in Cebu they will have to set up a new home. It’s not going to be easy but we know the Lord is in control! Pray that they will find the right house in God’s timing!

Jr. Church 2North Cebu Baptist Church just celebrated its 11th anniversary! The Lord blessed us with  new visitors, familiar faces, and our faithful crew. There were so many children that we had to teach class at a nearby gym! It was an opportunity that wasn’t wasted, and the seeds of the gospel were planted in both children and adults. Please keep these people in your prayers! Pray that the Lord would open doors and give us more opportunities to reach out.
