Jean an RalphIn this world of technology and computers, it is easier than ever to connect with people on the other side of the world.  Still I was shocked when it brought us a new couple looking for Pastor Kohl, our pastor back in Eden, NY.  This young couple had been listening to Pastor Kohl’s sermons online and were really encouraged by them.  Then by looking at Faith Bible Baptist’s website they saw that Elizabeth and I were missionaries here in Cebu, Philippines.  That directed them to our blog  and they contacted us, asking for directions to our church.  Then one Sunday morning they came! Now they have been faithfully attending our church ever since.  Please continue to pray for this couple, Jean and Ralph.  They have already been saved and have been looking for a good church.  Jean has even brought her mom now!  It’s amazing to think that this young couple found us after listening to messages from our pastor back in the U.S. For a moment it made us feel a little closer to home.

Adopted kids <3We were greatly encouraged last Sunday when one of the mothers from our route came for the first time on Sunday night.  She has been faithfully attending our Sunday morning services for some time and now we’re excited to see her take this next step in her Christian faith.  Since she accepted the Lord as her Savior earlier this year she has been bringing her four little ones and occasionally her husband.  Please pray that he would also be saved!  We are so blessed to see these young Christians on our route make great decisions for the Lord!

A Thankful Heart

As we celebrated Thanksgiving this year I found myself reviewing all that has happened in my life and there is just so much to be thankful for!  Who would have thought that by 2012 I would be in the Philippines,  have a lovely wife, a precious little girl, and baby number two on the way!  Our first seven months on the field have been so greatly blessed.   We have benefited from the wisdom and friendship of the Lewis family, who have helped us sidestep many obstacles and taught us how to face others.  We were also able to find a house quickly, enabling us to settle into our new home.  In the short time we have been here we have even seen people trust Christ as their only way to heaven.  I know a lot of work and planning has been done to get us here in Cebu but I also realize that without the Lord our plans are futile.  In this Thanksgiving season I have to direct my praise to the One Who has enabled me to serve Him.  My very breath, my life is in His hands. He has given me health and strength, something which a person often takes for granted.  I’m so thankful for His love and protection!  Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and took time to remember what the Lord has done for you!

Thanks to modern technology our family could share a small part in Faith Bible Baptist’s missions conference this year.  Our pastor and home church called through skype to check in with us and let us know that they are praying for our family.  We had a lot of laughs and shed a few tears as we talked with our friends and loved ones.  It brought back so many memories and challenged us to continue serving the Lord here in Cebu.  We aren’t running this race alone, others are watching and that’s just one of the reasons why we must press on.  Each of us touches a life and those same people, both saved and lost, need to see the Lord work in our lives!  I know it was an encouragement for me to see the same faces still in church and excited about their missions conference!  Hebrews 12:1-2, “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which does so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…”
