We’re back in Cebu! We want to thank everyone who prayed for us as we made the long trek home. Elizabeth was a trooper and we’re extremely thankful that Philip didn’t make a surprise appearance on the plane! :)  Please continue to pray for us as we’re still feeling the effects of jet lag. The kids were up bright and early this morning around 3:30…hopefully that will go away soon! :)  The greatest feeling though is being home! It is so good to be back in Cebu; we can’t wait to jump back in the ministry and work with God’s people!

8 Years!

So I made a mistake! :) I’ve been telling churches that Elizabeth and I were celebrating our 9th anniversary but it’s actually our 8th. I told Elizabeth that it felt like 9 and that was a good thing! Somehow, I was still in trouble. But looking back at the years, one word comes to mind: Thankful. I am so thankful for the wife God has given me. I am thankful for the years we’ve had together. I’m thankful for the haven our home has become. Are there difficult times? Absolutely. Are there times I get in trouble? YES! Like when I forget how many years we’ve been married. :) But I love what God has given us and I pray for many many more moments and years together!

It’s almost been 1 week since we arrived in Cebu! We’ve missed our friends in the Philippines & it’s so good to be with them again. We were encouraged to see so many people still faithful; still serving the Lord in their place. I put my Cebuano to the test and preached on Sunday night. Thankfully, the language is still there! :) I just need to break off the rust. Pray for us as we still deal with the lingering effects of jet leg. The kids have woken us up in the wee hours of the morning on more than one occasion. :) They’ve finally started waking up at 6:00 am so we’re almost there!  We are excited to be back in this special place. There’s great peace in knowing you are right where God wants you!

My Journey

As a missionary wife, there are some questions I get asked a lot.  Whether it be a family member or church, inevitably I’m asked, “Do you like living in the Philippines?” My answer is a genuine YES! But that wasn’t always the case.  As a young wife, I completely supported Chris and was excited to serve the Lord in the Philippines. Then we took our survey trip…and suddenly I found myself looking at the reality of living in a third world country. Honestly, I didn’t think I could do it!  Everything was just so foreign, so different from anything I knew. I prayed, “Lord change this country so I can live here and serve You.” A very spiritual prayer, I know. :) But then something amazing happened in my heart. God brought the testimonies of other missionary wives to my attention. One phrase jumped at me…“Different isn’t always bad, it’s just different.” God used this over and over to prepare me for life in the Philippines. During the rest of our survey trip, God helped take my focus from me to the need around me.  By the time our survey trip was over, my prayer had changed from, “God change these people…” to “God change me so I can help these people.”  Now, almost 5 years later, the Philippines has become home. It’s funny, as a missionary you go to another country to reach out and help people and yet God uses these same people to help us. I’m so thankful to see how God has grown me throughout my personal journey. Not that I’ve “arrived” or become super spiritual but I realize how weak I am and how much I need God to work in my own heart.
