On October 19th, NCBTeensC hosted its 4th Teen Connection! Teen Connection is a great tool we use to reach the young people of Cebu. It gives us the opportunity to present the Gospel and show teens that they can have fun without sin. We play games, perform a skit, and have preaching designed specifically for the young people. We had a great turnout and literally filled the church with visitors and returning guests.  When the time came for them to go home, several teens told us that they would be back for church next Sunday!  Teen Connection is just one way for us to get involved in the lives of these teens and their families. This is just the beginning….we pray that through this ministry we will find many more opportunities to share the gospel and touch a life.

NCBCThis week we celebrated the ten year anniversary of North Cebu Baptist Church! In the morning service we skyped with Pastor Travis Lewis and his family. It was a wonderful treat for the church folks who have missed their pastor family still on furlough. We also looked at pictures from the last ten years and enjoyed seeing all the faces who are still faithful to church today. It was a great day to reflect and be thankful for God’s work. We are so thankful for all the labor the Lewis Family has invested in North Cebu Baptist Church! God has used them to bring us to Cebu and we are so thankful for their partnership. Now we press forward and pray for many more years to serve the King!

A Celebration of LIFE

the tombResurrection Sunday is almost here! Our church will celebrate by remembering the resurrection of Christ…but this day has come to mean different things for people around the world. This is true for the people in Cebu. Here, the celebration begins earlier in the week. Like other peoples of the world, they begin celebrating on Good Friday to remember that Christ died. But something a bit more unique to the Philippines, is their Black Saturday. It is a day of death and many superstitions. For them Christ is dead so they keep their children home, afraid that if they are hurt there is no God to heal their wounds. Our bustling metropolis becomes quiet and almost completely shuts down. Throughout the week, men beat themselves and are crucified to remember Christ’s death. That really is the emphasis of their celebration, death. But as we look at the Bible we see that God emphasized something even more important….Christ’s resurrection. If Christ had died as other men and remained in the tomb, there would be no power in the cross. We would have no promise of heaven, no hope beyond the grave. But because Christ rose, he proved that he truly was the Son of God!  He was more than a mere man, he was God.  That is what makes him so different from any other man or religion. Our God is alive today, waiting patiently for men to realize this truth. Salvation is offered freely to all who would believe and repent of their sins! We pray you all have a wonderful day as you celebrate the resurrection of our Savior!

I Corinthians 15:17 “And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.”

Love is…

LOVE ISThis year we hosted NCBC’s Hearts Day Teen Banquet. It was a great reminder for the teens that you can have fun in church!  When the big day finally arrived we had 46 teenagers in attendance! Personally, I enjoy Valentines Day. Not only is it my birthday, but now I also enjoy it as a husband. It’s a wonderful thing to celebrate love in this harsh world but my greatest joy in celebrating this holiday is remembering God’s love. How can we understand true love until we see it in Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross? That is a love that gives all…that is true love. Our teen night was filled with fun games and crazy skits but overall it was a night that we used to emphasize the love of Christ.
